Guests are currently streaming into the Presidential Villa, Abuja for the June 12, Democracy Day investiture, where President Muhammadu Buhari is expected to bestow posthumous award of Grand Commander of the Federal Republic (GCFR) on the presumed winner of the June 12 presidential election, late Moshood Kashimawo Olawale Abiola.
The investiture is scheduled to hold inside the old Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa,Abuja at 10:00am.
Besides Abiola, the President is also expected to bestow the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON) on Baba Gana Kingibe, who served as running mate to the late MKO in the botched presidential election.
Buhari will equally confer the GCON on the late human rights lawyer, Gani Fawehinmi.
According to the Presidency, June 12 will officially become a national public holiday from next year.
Exactly 25 years ago, the regime of the self-styled military President, General Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida, annulled the June 12, 1993 presidential election which was adjudged as one of the freest and fairest in the nation’s history.
As at the time of filing this brief report, prominent figures that featured in the struggle for the actualization of June 12 were already seated at the banquet hall.
Among those spotted by our reporter includes Femi Falana, a former Senator, Jonathan Zwingina, Frank Ovie- Kokori, scion of the late human rights lawyer, Muhammed Gani Fawehimi, among other notable figures.
